Shoes with Meaning

Basketball is back - but not as you've seen it before! The inaugural Manuka Doctor All Star Celeb Slam, this Thursday, 26 November at Spark Arena, Auckland. Some of New Zealand's biggest household names from sport, television, radio and social media go head-to-head to raise money for the Starship Foundation. Suiting up will be Silver Fern superstar Irene Van Dyk, Winter Olympic bronze medallist Zoi Sadowski-Synnott, Warriors Captain Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, double Olympic gold medallist Eric Murray, legendary racing driver Greg Murphy, boxer Junior Fa, Black Fern Ruby Tui, former All Blacks wizard Carlos Spencer, politician David Seymour… plus many more!

Breakers captain Tom Abercrombiewill sport a pair of custom UA Basketball shoes for the game. Hand painted from Tyler Richardson at Helmart Design. Images attached. Inspiration has been taken from:

• The back half of the shoe with colours and white separations are from the different coloured rooms on different floors from inside Starship Children’s Hospital.

• Starship Rocket and Star logo included.

• The 3P's (Tom’s kids) their names are Pilot, Porter and Pacer.

• Pilot and Porter spending a lot of time in Starship in their early days.

• Pilot inside the rocket.

• Porter is a heart kid so hearts among the stars.

• Pacer a picture of Indiana Pacers logo among the hearts and stars.

These will be auctioned off after the game with proceeds going to the Starship foundation.
