Nico Porteous made history as he achieved a "lifelong dream" of winning an X Games gold medal over the weekend in Aspen, Colorado. Some say the X-Games is the action sports equivalent of the Olympics. Nico made history when he became the first freeskier to ever land both his right double 1620 and the combination of a right double 1620 into a left double 1620 in a halfpipe competition.

What’s a 1620? A 4 flip & 2 rotation trick -  back to back from the left side & the right side of the halfpipe. That’s 1 more 360 degree rotation over most others in the competition!

Watch his run  here

It was the first time a New Zealand athlete has won gold in the free-ski superpipe at the X Games.
