Nico Porteous joins the Under Armour Athlete Roster
Nico Porteous is a name that is becoming more widely known across the country. He became New Zealand’s youngest ever Olympic medallist when he won bronze, at the age of 16 years and 91 days in the halfpipe in Pyeonchang in 2018. In 2019, his success continued claiming another bronze, but this time at the Winter X-Games. Introduced to skiing by his parents at the age of four, working with a coach since the age of six and the rivalry with older brother Miguel (who is also a professional skier), some would say Nico was destined for success. But he wants more, his best is never good enough and his coach would say he’s a perfectionist.
Although known for his credentials on the snow, Nico lives and breathes the outdoor lifestyle. Residing between Wanaka, New Zealand and Breckenridge Colorado (USA) Nico’s talent extends to surfing, mountain-biking, riding his motocross bike and just being outside with his mates – like any 18 year-old should! This partnership represents Under Armour’s commitment to establish a stronger relevance in the New Zealand market, along with having strategic athlete alignments to specific product categories.
“Joining a reputable global brand is great, but what really excites me is working closely with the New Zealand team to build both our brands in the market”. Nico commences his 2020 campaign competing at X-Games Aspen this weekend. After his bronze medal in 2019, he’s straight into the finals. Catch him in action;
